Handy iPhone Apps For a British Holiday

I have been recently thinking how modern technology can be used to help holiday makers on traditional holidays have a better experience. I have used a walking holiday in Northumberland as an example. A typical holiday in Northumberland, will involve exploring the national parks, seeing attractions like Hadrian's wall and visiting quaint villages and eating out. Here are some apps that I think a visitor to Northumberland would find useful for their Apple iPhone.

Soda Snap

While not necessarily helping you in any specific location, the soda snap app lets you take a photo, turn it into a postcard and send it straight from your iPhone. This is a great new way to send postcards, and you can pretty much guarantee your recipient will see them before you arrive home.

The Weather Channel App

There are numerous apps available that can tell you the current weather and the weather forecast. So have a play around with a few of them and see which one you prefer. The weather channel app has been recommended as it is currently free and you can check multiple locations easily.

Yelp

So you are walking around Northumberland and want to know what business and restaurants are around in your area. Well with the Yelp app, you can find the nearest amenities and hopefully someone will have left a handy review to let you know what they are like. Some of the smaller villages might not have many entries. But you can leave your own review to help fellow travellers.

Google Earth

There are probably lots of specialist iPhone apps for trekking and walking, but if you want to simply get an idea of where you are if you visiting one of the regions national parks. Then you can use the Google Earth map to get your position and how far you are away from things.

Wi-Fi Finder

Im not sure how many wi-fi spots there are around Northumberland, but using the wi-fi finder app you will be able to find some to avoid using your data package and so you can using Skype for cheap calls to loved ones.

Flashlight

This free apps turns your cameras flash into a handy torch/flashlight which is handy if you find yourself stuck on and dark country paths in the evenings.

While people have managed to have successful enjoyable holidays for many years without modern technology, there is no denying that some of the iPhones features and apps would come in handy when visiting the region.

This article was written by Tom Sangers on behalf of Northumberland Cottages who offer Self Catering Cottages Northumberland
